Hokuto no Ken Movie

Following a cataclysmic nuclear war, the world teeters on the brink of complete destruction. Civilization is polarized into a degenerate society where opposing packs of marauding scavengers prey on helpless, homeless nomads. For those who are lucky enough to survive the constant brutality and danger, it is a bleak existence. Life an death blur into abstractions. The only hope left for mankind is to find a hero worthy of becoming the next "Fist of the North Star" - an enlightened warrior - who is capable of leading those with the will to survive out of this barrenness into a new world. But in this savage no-man's land of shifting loyalties and power-hungry demi-gods, heroes are in short supply. (Source: AniDB)

Reviews

A very so-so anime of the 1980's which seemed a bit more disappointing due to having watched the entire series beforehand. The story is changed around a lot to fit the most important pieces of the plot into a 110 minute movie, made even more disappointing by the very poor, lifeless 80's english voice dub. The main story is pretty much the same, with the future world being ravaged by nuclear war before seeing the story's protagonist Kenshiro being defeated and scarred in battle by his former friend Shin who then takes his fiancee Yuria away from him. Ken then travels what's left of the world aiding the poor who group together to survive and rebuild civilisation as he searches for Shin and Yuria, meeting new allies including children Lynn and Bart, and Nanto fighter Rei, while also squaring off against tough enemies including his evil "brothers" Jagi and Raoh. I probably would've awarded this movie 2 stars but I decided to give an extra half-star for the music which includes the theme song "Heart of Madness" as well as the use of excessive bloodshed that was missing from the series.
